Former Miss India winners drive an unmanned all-terrain vehicle with their mobile phones
Beauty queens and former Pantaloons Femina Miss India winners Ekta Chaudhary and Neha Hinge discovered a new way of driving cars.
At the launch of the new range of Symbian Belle devices from Nokia, they unveiled an unmanned all-terrain vehicle (ATV) controlled completely by the new Nokia 701. The application, created by Bangalore-based developer Divum, in association with the mobile phone company, runs on the Symbian Belle device.
“My first reaction when I saw the wheels move was that of disbelief. It’s incredible to be able to control a full-sized vehicle using a smartphone,” says Neha, adding, “This brings back memories of my time as a software engineer. There’s so much you can do with technology today.”
The project is a blend of powerful hardware, software and robotics. The application running on the Symbian Belle device allows users to steer the vehicle through Wi-Fi and lets them control the vehicle from anywhere on earth. The camera fitted on the vehicle streams live videos back to the smartphone. This brings motion-sensing technology to real life, enabling users to steer and manoeuvre the ATV by tilting their device.
“I didn’t believe that I’d be able to drive a vehicle around with a mobile phone until I tried it out. For me, this was a complete Bond moment,” exclaims Ekta. “The Symbian Belle devices are fast, intuitive, fluid and look beautiful,” she adds.
Nokia have announced the launch of three feature-packed smartphones, which include innovation with Symbian Belle, and they bring the latest functionality at attractive prices. The Nokia 700, 701 and 600 extend the range of available designs, features and functionality in their Symbian smartphone range. Symbian Belle powers all three with the Just Tap Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
